Kilkenny Poetry Broadsheet - 2017

KILKENNY POETRY BROADSHEET ISSUE 17

The seventeenth issue of the very popular KILKENNY POETRY BROADSHEET is currently being edited and the new Broadsheet 17 will be launched as part of the Kilkenny Arts Festival in August 2017. The aim of the publication is to give Kilkenny writers, born or based in Kilkenny City and County, a platform for their work. Each poem selected is included in the Broadsheet which is available free throughout the County. Last year 55 writers answered the callout for submissions, sending in over a hundred poems for consideration. Twelve poems, by eleven poets, were selected by Editor Kimberly Campanello for publication and a further nine poems shortlisted.

The 2016 Broadsheet was once again launched at the Parade Tower in conjunction with the Kilkenny Arts Festival 2016 and was officially launched by Kilkenny Arts Festival Poet-in-Residence Paul Muldoon and Broadsheet editor Kimberly Campanello. The official launch recognises the significance and quality of the Broadsheet and the quality of the work of the poets involved. KIMBERLY CAMPANELLO HAS BEEN INVITED TO EDIT BROADSHEET 17. Kimberly Campanello is a lecturer in Creative Writing at York St. John University. Born in Elkhart, Indiana, she is a dual American and Irish citizen. Her publications include Spinning Cities (Wurm Press, 2011), Consent (Doire Press, 2013), Strange Country (The Dreadful Press, 2015) and Imagines (New Dublin Press, 2015), a prizewinning limited edition book of Campanello's poems with musical scores by composer Benjamin Dwyer and audio recordings by Garth Knox (viola) and Campanello (poetry). MOTHER BABY HOME, a book of conceptual and visual poetry on the St Mary's Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, will appear with zimZalla Avant Objects in 2017. Kimberly has taught Creative Writing and literature courses at Florida Gulf Coast University, the National University of Ireland (Maynooth), Middlesex University, the University of East London, City Lit (London), the Irish Writers' Centre and Big Smoke Writing Factory (Dublin).

 

 

The Kilkenny Poetry Broadsheet, a publication from the Kilkenny County Council Arts Office, gives local writers a platform for their work. Beginning in 2001, the Poetry Broadsheet has merged poetry with illustration to create an individual broadsheet publication that is then free to the public. The editors have been a carefully chosen selection of accomplished poets that have had the difficult task of choosing from sometimes nearly 200 submitted poems to choose the winning poets. To name a few Yvonne Cullen, Pat Boran, Iggy McGovern, Nuala Ní Chonchúir and Tony Curtis have been past editors. Local illustrator Alé Mércado has worked alongside the Arts Office for years to produce beautifully illustrated broadsheets, individual each year and tailored to the poems selected.

This publication has given local poets of all levels and ages and levels the opportunity of being published, and been a vibrant addition to the Arts Office programme.
